Department of Laboratory Medicine

The Department of Laboratory Medicine encompasses a broad range  of specialties such as bacteriology, virology, immunology, transfusion medicine, clinical chemistry, pharmacology, pathology, cytology, and molecular genetics.

Highly specialized analyses are performed within all fields.

The laboratories are accredited by Swedac and have about 270 employees including 20 specialist physicians.

There is a physician on call 24/7 for transfusion medicine. This unit is also responsible for therapeutic plasmapheresis, which along with blood group serological diagnostics can also be carried out 24/7.

Microbiology also has access to a weekend on-call service for certain types of tests.

Research is carried out in collaboration with research groups within the hospital as well as nationally and internationally.
